The end of Summer term, 2011

Ok, I know I'm complaining a bit, but jeezzz, what is going on with students in spring/summer terms?  It's like they have no compunctions about blowing off their classes, classes that cost them lots of money. For instance, I have students create a blog and post over 7 weeks a total of 5 short blog posts. Hardly a major amount of work but at least 25% of my students don't bother to create the blog (which we do in class!) or post anything to the blog. Or, if they post, they generally do not meet the deadlines for posting which they are given ample notice. It drives me crazy!

The end of Spring term, 2011

Spring term is almost over, well except for the grading, the desperate pleas for mercy, and the late submission of papers, and course packs for next term. In all, I think the term went fairly well. My students were a diverse, rather eclectic bunch with lots of upper classmen and also a few entering freshers. Where things became dicey is when students had trouble keeping up with the very fast pace of spring courses. That's always a problem, and unfortunately, some students have problems with the intense concentration of papers.

Another day and another blog

I had to delete my gmail account because it was being used for spam. I'm not sure what sort of spam, but in any case, when I deleted the gmail account, I also lost my Youtube channel and my blog. Yikes. So here's my new blog and this is my first post. More later...
